SIX VIE FOR DIRECTOR POSITIONS AT KOSCIUSKO REMC’S
71st ANNUAL MEETING; ARNOLD RETIRES FROM BOARD
Warsaw, Indiana – Six candidates will vie for three positions on the Kosciusko REMC Board of Directors at the electric co-op’s annual meeting on Saturday, April 17. Incumbents Fred Powell and Steve Miner are opposed by candidates Tony Fleming and Pam Messmore, respectively. Current KREMC director Don Arnold has announced his retirement from the board, and two new candidates will seek his seat. Running for the position are Kim Buhrt and Steve Vanlaningham.
A long-standing cooperative tradition, this year’s annual meeting is the 71st for the electric cooperative. It will be held at Warsaw Community Church, 2300 Ranch Road, Warsaw. Doors to the event will open at 8:30 a.m., and members can participate in a variety of activities during a pre-meeting expo. Scheduled activities include health screenings by Kosciusko Community Hospital Health & Wellness Center, bucket truck rides (weather permitting), geothermal and energy advisor displays, kids activities, free doughnuts and coffee, and more.
Also on hand at the event will be the Biodiesel Mobile Learning Center presented by the Indiana Corn and Soybean growers. This interactive, hands-on walk-through unit focuses on how biodiesel fuel is made, and the importance the fuel plays in our state’s economy. It will be on display in the WCC parking lot.
The business meeting will convene at 10:00 a.m. In addition to the Board election, other meeting highlights will include executive reports, announcement of the 2010 Touchstone Energy Camp delegates, and entertainment. This year’s entertainment will feature some “Glee” provided by Wawasee High School’s “Vocal Motion.” In addition, children ages 3-12 will have their own program to attend featuring the Village Puppeteers from Saugatuck, Michigan. There will also be face painting, balloon twisting, and crafts and games.
Attending members will receive $8 credits on their electric bills, and will also have a chance to win one of many door prizes, including a 32” HDTV or a Wii gaming system, $40 and $25 bill credits, and more. Kids will also have special door prizes, including an electric scooter.
“We encourage every member of KREMC to attend this meeting,” said President & CEO Steve Rhodes. “This is a year of change, and we encourage every member to exercise their right to vote to help decide who will help lead KREMC into the future.”
