Capacity Crowd Elects New Board Member and Re-Elects Two Incumbents at Kosciusko REMC's 70th Annual Meeting
A capacity crowd of approximately 1,200 Kosciusko REMC members and their families filled Warsaw Community Church on Saturday, April 18th, for the electric cooperative's 70h Annual Meeting. The primary item on the agenda was the election of directors. Incumbents John Anglin, Jr. and Bill Stump, Jr. were re-elected to serve additional three year terms, and Dan Tucker was elected to his first three-year term on the Board of Directors.
Congressman Mark Souder was the featured speaker at the meeting, addressing co-op members about the current energy situation, and its potential impact on our area. During the meeting, the 2008 Annual Report was presented, and was accompanied by reports from Chairman of the Board John Anglin, Jr.; Board Secretary/Treasurer Terry Bouse, and President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Rhodes. The meeting theme of "The Right Tools for the Job" gave members an overview of the many projects and programs KREMC worked on in 2008. Members were also encouraged to participate in the "Our Energy, Our Future" campaign, to encourage their legislators to address rising energy costs, rising energy demand, and carbon reduction issues.
Members were entertained by the Whitko HS Jazz Band and Gospel Choir; Tippecanoe Valley HS Valley Singers; and Wawasee HS "Vocal Motion." Children participated in a kids program featuring Fort Wayne's Science Central "Science for You" program, and crafted handprint tiles with the help of Pottery Bayou. Each child also received a sapling to plant courtesy of the Kosciusko County Soil & Water Conservation District.
"We had an excellent turnout, and we were glad so many members took the time to participate in the election of their Board of Directors," said President and CEO Steve Rhodes. "Annual meeting is a true demonstration of democracy in action, and every vote had an impact. We hope members had a good time, and that they'll continue to take an active role in their annual meeting."
